Betty Clements, Scott Hall of Fame Inductee, dies

BETTY JEAN CLEMENTS, age 75, Main Street, Mt. Olivet, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at the Robertson County Health Care Facility. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, March 20, 1933, to the late Walter and Margie Perkey, she was a retired Internal Revenue Service employee, a homemaker, a member of the Taylor Mill Church of Christ and was formerly employed by the Kenton County Clerk’s Office. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by; a son, Marvin Keith Bowman; four brothers, James Perkey, Bill Perkey, Jack Perkey and Charles Perkey and a sister, Ethel Godsey.
In Mt. Olivet, Mrs. Clements was a member of the Mt. Olivet city council, and owner and manager of the Iron Kettle. In Taylor Mill, she was actively involved with the Kenton County Democratic Party. Mrs. Clements was elected to the Taylor Mill City Council and also served as mayor. She was later elected to the city commission and served as Police and Public Works Commissioner. She was a board member of the Taylor Mill Swim Club where she also ran the concession booth. In 2004, she was elected to the Scott High School Hall of Fame for her efforts in helping establish the Scott Eagle Club and raising money for their athletic department. She was also involved in helping establish Cub Pack 766. Mrs. Clements was a member of the
Taylor Mill Fire Department and Life Squad, served as Life Squad Captain, was a Red Cross Instructor for ten years. She was an EMT Instructor, and a certified fireman with the City of Taylor Mill. While with the life squad, she saw action at the Beverly Hills Supper Club and Simon Kenton High School Explosion.
She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Clements; four sons, Robert S. Clements, Edgewood, James C. Clements, Cincinnati, Ohio, Walter E. Clements, Mt. Olivet and Jeffrey A. Clements, Richmond; five daughters, Linda Jones, Le High Acres, Florida, Sandy Gillespie, Villa Hills, Janet La Count, Phoenix, Arizona, Sylvia Moore, Warner Robins, Georgia and Darla Hernandez, Erlanger; three sisters, Rosie Hardin and Freda Dunford, both of Northern Kentucky and Vonnie Hubbard, Lexington and thirty-two grandchildren and great grandchildren.
